Developers often find themselves grappling with various development strategies while aligning them with their clients’ specific requirements. Unfortunately, employing an unsuitable strategy can lead to poor eCommerce performance, making you lose your valuable clients.

Codilar Technologies recently held a webinar titled “From Ideas to Implementation: Creating Your Ideal Magento Development Strategy” on November 7, 2023. And we’re extremely excited to announce that the session was a huge success.

If you were among the ones who didn’t get a chance to participate in this exclusive webinar for any reason, we’ve got you covered through a quick recap.

Whether you’re an experienced Magento developer or just starting your journey, this recap is your gateway to unlocking the potential of your eCommerce ventures.

Our keynote speaker, Mr. Hariharasubramaniam B, one of the prominent technical experts at Codilar Technologies, kicked off the session by defining what a Magento development strategy looks like and how to make it ideal to boost your eCommerce capabilities. He emphasized the fact that no matter how you customize your strategies, to make them ideal, you, as a developer, must have the right tools accompanied by the right expertise to align with your customers’ unique objectives.

Here are the key takeaways from the webinar:

  • How can we establish an ideal work environment?
  • How can we develop effective development strategies?
  • What approaches should we adopt while introducing new features?
  • What debugging strategies should we adopt?

Here’s what makes this webinar a must-see:

In this webinar, you can witness how Mr. Hari has brilliantly touched on all the key areas of development strategies with examples to help all developers understand the concept better.

Let’s break your curiosity and put everything together.

The session began by underlining the importance of identifying your ideal work environment, especially for developers handling heavy back-end tasks. This setup revolves around your system or laptop, basically serving as your ideal coding hub where you code, interact, and develop.

So, before diving into any development strategy, it’s essential to understand the specifics of your work environment: what it demands, the goals you’re after, and what your clients are expecting. Most importantly, ensure that you have the right skills and tools at your disposal to drive this development journey confidently.

Hari discussed IDEs (Integrated Developer Environments) that are most suitable for backend development, specifically pointing out the most popular ones, Visual Studio Code (VS Code) and PhpStorm. He emphasizes that the latter offers the most comprehensive set of features to help you with backend-heavy  development. He also gave us a live demonstration on how, using PhpStorm, you can configure your ideal development environment, install crucial plugins (like Magento PhpStorm), exclude irrelevant directories, and kickstart projects with better workflow.

He also addressed common challenges developers face, such as the uncertainties in their approaches, the accuracy of implementation methods, the availability of necessary plugins, and more. Thankfully, this is where PhpStorm comes to your aid, instantly delivering the information you need via its built-in popups.

Meanwhile, he also discusses how you can explore other quality tools within PhpStorm, like PHP_CodeSniffer, PHP Mess Detector, XDebug, and more, to experiment with your development game. Once you’ve set up your ideal work environment, the next crucial step is planning. In general, planning involves two main strategies. The first involves mandatory approaches that developers have to follow while developing a new feature. And the second involves debugging strategies utilized during the execution phase to identify and resolve arising issues.

But here’s the main thing: in development, it’s more important for developers to focus on writing a piece of  code that works rather than striving for perfect, optimized code. This is crucial because this phase inherently allows for continual improvements and optimization, thereby streamlining the coding process.

Thus,  effective planning not only helps you refine your approaches but also enables you to compare strategies, enhance code quality, identify drawbacks, and promptly fix issues to ideally make your development strategy successful. It makes feature integration and execution way simpler. He insists this is the approach every developer needs to follow to make your coding life easier and more flexible. Moreover, while debugging, the approach changes from that of development. Developers should begin by reading the log files and replicating the issue to pinpoint the root cause. Make sure that you have a proper time frame in which you can rectify the issue; otherwise, you will have to change the approach. Hari details the ways in which you can use tools like Newrelic, Xdebug, and many more to aid in the debugging process.
