August 2025 came packed with updates merchants can’t afford to miss. Shopify has stepped up its game, making fraud prevention smarter with automation, giving Forms a multilingual upgrade, and opening up retail markets to make global selling easier than ever. Meanwhile, Adobe turned heads with Acrobat Studio, bringing AI powered tools to the everyday PDF.

And that was just the opening act. Walmart, Amazon, Google, eBay, and OpenAI also made bold moves that could reshape the future of commerce. Here’s the full roundup of what went down this month.

Platform Updates

Automated Fraud Prevention Settings in Shopify Payments

Shopify has rolled out a powerful new feature that lets merchants using Shopify Payments automate their fraud prevention settings. Instead of manually adjusting risk rules, you can now enable Shopify’s recommended fraud settings and let them automatically update as Shopify’s fraud model evolves. This smarter, adaptive system taps into over 400 fraud signals for greater accuracy, helping you block suspicious transactions while keeping legitimate customers’ payments flowing smoothly. By turning this on, your store will automatically decline charges that fail CVV checks, while removing outdated checks like postal code AVS declines, ensuring stronger protection with less effort on your part.

Translate Your Shopify Forms into Multiple Languages

Shopify Forms now comes with built in translation support, helping you connect with customers across borders more easily. With this update, you can translate form content into multiple languages so shoppers see forms in the same language they browse your store in. Whether you choose automatic translations or add your own manual translations, you’ll have full control with a preview option to review everything before publishing. This makes it easier than ever to localize your customer experience, improve engagement, and increase conversions in international markets.

Retail Markets with Location Specific Catalogs

Shopify has introduced Retail Markets, giving merchants the power to customize product pricing across different retail locations. With location specific catalogs, you can set tailored prices for the same product based on store performance, customer demographics, or local market conditions, without disrupting unified inventory management. This update also enhances POS performance with faster sync times and smoother bulk operations, making it easier to run premium outlets, value stores, or any mix in between. Available to retailers using POS Pro (v10.3 or higher), Retail Markets let you price smarter, sell smarter, and stay agile in every market you serve.

Adobe Launches Acrobat Studio for Productivity and Creativity

Adobe has unveiled Acrobat Studio, a groundbreaking platform that transforms the way people work with PDFs and creative content. By uniting Acrobat’s trusted PDF tools with Adobe Express and customizable AI Assistants, Acrobat Studio turns static files into dynamic, conversational knowledge hubs. With new features like PDF Spaces, AI powered summarization, and seamless Express creation tools, users can now uncover insights, generate ideas, and instantly create polished content, all in one place. From professionals to students to enterprises, Acrobat Studio reimagines the PDF as not just a document format, but a smart, interactive workspace for productivity and creativity.

Industry Updates

Walmart Unveils ‘Super Agent’ AI Framework

Walmart is taking a bold step in its AI journey with the launch of a companywide “super agent” strategy, designed to unify its growing set of AI tools into a single, streamlined framework. Instead of scattering capabilities across different platforms, Walmart is centralizing its AI into four powerful super agents, namely Sparky for customers, Marty for partners, an associate focused agent for store teams, and a developer agent for tech teams. With over 900,000 associates already asking 3 million questions a week through conversational AI, this new approach ensures clarity, speed, and simplicity, while paving the way for smarter shopping experiences, faster operations, and deeper collaboration across Walmart’s vast ecosystem.

Amazon Partners with Gopuff for Ultra Fast Grocery Delivery in the UK

Amazon has teamed up with Gopuff to bring customers across the UK groceries and home essentials in as little as 15 minutes. From fresh food and snacks to baby products, cleaning supplies, and even alcohol, thousands of everyday items are now available 24/7 through Amazon, powered by Gopuff’s micro fulfilment centres located close to customers. After a successful trial in Birmingham and Salford, the service is rolling out nationally, giving shoppers in major cities like London, Manchester, Leeds, and Cardiff a faster, more convenient way to stock up on essentials, whether it’s for a weekly shop or a last minute dinner party.

More Flexible Web Payments with Chrome and Google Wallet

Google is rolling out three new ways to make paying online simpler and more rewarding. Shoppers in the U.S. can now see reward details for over 100 credit cards directly in Chrome autofill, helping them pick the best card for every purchase. Pay over time options are also expanding, with Affirm and Zip available now and Klarna, Afterpay, and others coming soon, so big ticket buys feel more manageable. And for those sending money abroad, Google is testing a transparent global remittance experience on Wallet online and Search, giving users clear fee and exchange rate details with providers like Ria, Xe, and Wise before completing transfers.

eBay Expands Tech Tools to Support Sellers

eBay is rolling out a fresh suite of AI powered tools designed to make selling easier, smarter, and more efficient. The latest updates include AI assistance for seller buyer communication in the U.S. and U.K. and an Inventory Mapping API built to reduce the hassles of managing inventory, all with the goal of simplifying routine tasks. Sellers will also gain access to a cost tracking tool for better pricing decisions, while U.S. merchants will soon benefit from automated positive feedback if buyers don’t leave their own. Alongside these tools, eBay is introducing enhanced protections like Item Not Received (INR) reimbursement, ensuring sellers are covered even in tricky delivery situations. With these updates, eBay is doubling down on AI and automation to strengthen seller confidence and improve marketplace growth.
