Working in a fast-paced industry like eCommerce requires keeping up with the newest trends, industry shifts, and major updates. In April 2025, we got some significant updates on top eCommerce platforms (like Adobe and Shopify), social networks, and upcoming events. We’ve gathered a comprehensive list of all the developments and updates in and around the eCommerce industry that’ll help you stay up-to-date with the rapidly changing digital commerce world.

Platform Updates

Shopify – Add-to-Cart Limit Protects Inventory

On April 3rd, 2025, Shopify introduced an Add-to-Cart Limit that allows merchants to put a limit on the quantity of each item a customer can add to their cart. This can help with concealing exact inventory levels while preventing overselling. Based on past orders and other parameters, Shopify automatically suggests a limit, which can be manually adjusted by merchants via Settings → Checkout. While this limit only applies to online store carts (not draft orders or POS), merchants can get more control over their inventory.

Shopify – Mixed Ship & Pickup Orders on POS

On April 1st, 2025, a brand-new POS update from Shopify enables staff to create mixed orders in a single checkout. After this update, shoppers can choose between in-store pick-up and shipping to their addresses for different items in one checkout. Not only does it eliminate the hassle of separate transactions, but it also ensures bundled discounts and pricing across all items. Moreover, it means that both back-ordered and in-stock items can be sold together. All this leads to a streamlined checkout experience, offering more flexible delivery options for customers.

Shopify – Custom Branding on POS Customer Display

Released in April 2025, Shopify POS v10.0 helps merchants with all-new branding controls for the customer-facing display. Merchants can leverage the POS Display Editor to upload their custom brand logo and background image to show on the idle screen. On top of it, Shopify allows them to modify the logo’s size as well as the background image’s opacity, and use JPG/PNG format of the images. Moreover, the new POS version also enables merchants to set the primary and accent theme colors for checkout screens (Cart, Thank You, Receipt, etc.), which helps with branding on the Android Customer View App and POS Terminal.

Shopify – POS Version 10 Overhaul

The POS Version 10 from Shopify has a redesigned interface and efficiency improvements. The updated version has a number of feature upgrades, including inline search across customers, products, orders, etc., a cleaner visual design, and one-tap navigation (for example, quick access to Register, Connectivity, etc.). While users can see more line items at a glance, thanks to a dynamic cart header, the new branding tools help set custom lock-screen images and brand colors/media to the checkout and idle screens.

Shopify – Checkout Blocks Order Value Limits

As of April 24th, 2025, Shopify Plus stores can set limits on order value in checkout customization. Merchants can set minimum and/or maximum cart subtotal values for orders. When a shopper’s subtotal is below the minimum threshold or above the maximum limit, their checkout will be blocked. These rules can apply only to B2B customers or to all shoppers. This helps merchants set minimum and maximum values for wholesale orders directly in the checkout flows, which streamlines the entire process.

Adobe Commerce – Critical April Security Patches

A security bulletin (APSB25-26) for Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce (Magento) was released by Adobe on April 8th, 2025. It fixes various critical vulnerabilities like DoS, security bypass, and privilege escalation, which could make stores vulnerable to attacks. The affected versions include Commerce B2B up through 1.5.1file-bm5dx9ypbrklq9hm4jemnf and all OS/Commerce up through 2.4.7-p4. Merchants are required to upgrade to the patched versions (for example, Commerce/OS 2.4.8, B2B 1.5.2) to ensure protectionfile-bm5dx9ypbrklq9hm4jemnf.

Adobe Firefly – Major AI Model Upgrades

Adobe Firefly has received major updates in April 2025. A completely new Image Model 4 (an “Ultra” variant included) is now able to create high-quality 2K images with great detail and prompt fidelity. Along with this, the Firefly Video Model has been launched into General Availability (GA), allowing users to create short videos up to 1080p from images or texts with a greater degree of realism. Adobe also unveiled the Firefly Vector Model for text-to-vector art conversion and the Firefly Boards, a collaborative/moodboard canvas powered by AI.

Another important update is regarding Firefly’s web app, which now includes third-party AI models (like DALL-E, Google’s Imagen3, and Flux 1.1) along with Adobe’s own AI model. This can help creators choose the model and style that aligns with their requirements.

Adobe Express – New AI Video & Animation Tools

Adobe included some advanced AI-powered video features in Adobe Express at Adobe MAX London. The company introduced a new Clip Maker tool, which edits long-form videos (like interviews and podcasts) and creates multiple short clips optimized for social networks. It also reframes key moments and adds captions to improve engagement. Moreover, they unveiled a Generate Video feature, which uses Firefly to generate custom background videos or B-rolls from image/text prompts. There’s also Dynamic Animation, which can add realistic motion effects (“Wind,” “Wobble,” etc.) to still images. These new tools and updates help Express users edit videos and animations much faster.

Meta – Teen Account Restrictions & Expansion

There has been an announcement by Meta regarding the new safety restrictions for Instagram Teen Accounts. Now, Instagram users under 16 need parental permission to go Live or disable the built-in content filters in DMs. Meta has also announced its plans to extend Teen Accounts to Facebook and Messenger to provide more parental controls.

Meta – Instagram ‘Edits’ Video App

Instagram launched a new, standalone video editing app for mobile that’ll help creators edit their videos on the go. Named “Edits,” this app not only allows users to capture clips for up to 10 minutes but also offers a full editing suite (including chroma-key compositing, transitions, auto-enhance effects, frame-accurate timeline, etc.) under a single roof. Users also get real-time insights like “skip rate” with this app, which helps optimize the videos further. Not only can users directly share the edited videos to Facebook/Instagram, but also export the videos without watermarks. With ongoing feature updates as planned by Meta, this app is set to streamline the video creation workflow, encouraging more creators.

WhatsApp – Advanced Chat Privacy

An Advanced Chat Privacy setting has been added by WhatsApp for group and one-on-one chats. This setting, when enabled, stops other chat members from auto-downloading shared media, exporting the conversation, or using the messages to train AI features. This update gives confidence that users can’t save or share sensitive chats/data outside the application. Once the setting is turned on by all chat participants, it makes sure that the chat content can only be viewed by the people in the conversation.

 LinkedIn – Qualified Leads Optimization

To make improvements in Lead Gen campaigns, LinkedIn introduced Qualified Leads Optimization in April 2025, where advertisers can leverage Conversion API or CRM data from HubSpot, Salesforce, or other similar platforms to define their own “qualified lead” and import it into the Campaign Manager. Then, LinkedIn displays the ads to high-intent prospects who match the set criteria. Based on the early results, it shows promising results in terms of reducing the cost-per-qualified-lead and boosting ROI by prioritizing leads with the highest conversion probability.

YouTube – Converting Long-Form Videos into Shorts

On April 16th, 2025, YouTube shared some insightful tips regarding repurposing long videos as Shorts. Published on its Creator Blog, the top advice includes recognizing the “hooks” (most appealing moments of the video) and extracting them in 9:16 vertical clips. Adding trending audio and captions can also greatly enhance the video’s potential to go viral. Moreover, sharing concise content with a clear hook and CTA is also advised by YouTube. The tips also recommend the use of consistent branding and analytics to improve engagement by trying different Shorts formats.
